Grade 8
This is advanced work in the rating of motor and diesel fuels in the engine testing section. An employee in this classification is responsible for conducting and recording results of tests of motor and diesel fuels in conformance with American Society for Testing Material Standards. This requires selection of the test method used, the use of the proper reference charts, completing all pre-test checks, making adjustments to fuel systems and test meters and maintaining mandatory operating conditions as specified for the test method used. This employee makes the required daily periodic 500, 800 and 2,000 hour inspection and makes needed minor or major repair to include top overhaul. It is essential to proper engine performance that repairs be made using close tolerances and that exacting standards be maintained. General supervision is received from the supervisor of the engine testing section through the observation of the employee while conducting tests and making repairs on test engines. This employee may supervise other employees and in the absence of the supervisor of the engine testing section will assume his/her responsibilities. II.
